About Me

My name is Marta and I have been working as a genealogy researcher for about 10 years. I gained my experience by researching the history of my own family, working in the Genealogy Department of the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw and in a private company, where I got specialized in researching all the faiths of pre-war Poland's inhabitants. Eventually, I started my own business and hereby I offer my services to you. I focus mostly on the territories that belonged to Poland before the World War II (including parts of today's Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania), but I am also eager to help with tracing the German ancestry of families that lived in the area which became Polish after 1945. Since I was born in Dolny Śląsk (also known as Lower Silesia/ Niederschlesien), I found it important to honor its' previous residents. I can help you with: - searching for your ancestors based on vital records (birth, marriage and death certificates) available online and in the archives on-site as well as other as well as other kind of helpful documents (address books, lists of residents, prewar magazines, war records etc.) - understanding the documents you already have - preparing the translations (I speak Polish and English, I can also read old German, Russian, Latin and Hebrew) - looking for your living relatives I will be happy to help you to discover your roots in Poland!

Łódź State Archives (Poland)

The establishment of the Archives of Historical Records of the City of Łódź should be considered the beginning of organized archival life in Łódź. It took place at the beginning of 1926. At a conference held on January 27, 1926, it was decided to apply for the appointment of an archival commission and for the allocation of appropriate funds that would enable the organization of an archive similar to those existing in Kraków and Lviv.

Płock State Archives (Poland)

Płock has great archival traditions dating back to the 13th century. At that time, the Archive of the Płock Castle was established - one of the oldest archives in Poland. It collected files created by the chancellor and the starost. The staroste supervised the castle, managed the prince's estates and exercised judicial power over the castle. With time, he handed over his powers to municipal courts, and then to the land courts. As a result of their activity, town and land books were created. The Castle Archives functioned until the mid-17th century.

Opole State Archives (Poland)

Wrocław State Archives (Poland)

The State Archives in Wrocław was established on the ruins of the Staatsarchiv zu Breslau operating in pre-war Wrocław. In 1811, in connection with the secularization of Silesian monasteries, the Archives of the Silesian Province in Wrocław (Das Schlesische Provinzialarchiv) were established, whose task was to secure a huge number of books, works of art and archives accumulated by monasteries in Lower and Upper Silesia over the past centuries.

Katowice State Archives (Poland)

The history of the historical archive in Katowice dates back to November 1932, when the Silesian Voivode, Dr. Michał Grażyński signed the "Temporary Regulations of the Archives of Historical Records of the Silesian Voivodeship". The organization of this institution was entrusted to a historian and archivist from Lviv, Dr. Michał Antonow (in 2012, the Scientific Center of the Head Office in Katowice was named after him). The Archives of Historical Records of the Silesian Voivodeship, the first Polish historical archive in Silesia, until 1939 operated due to the autonomous status of the Silesian Voivodeship, as an internal unit of the Silesian Voivodeship Office. Dr. M. Antonów was in charge of the Archive until 1969 with a break during the war.

Diocesan Archives in Toruń (Poland)

The Archives of Historical Records of the Toruń Diocese was established by the decree of the Bishop of Toruń, Andrzej Suski, on June 24, 2001. The basis for the erection of the central historical archive for the Toruń Diocese, established in 1992, were the provisions of the Code of Canon Law. The basic functions of the Toruń diocesan archive were collecting, storing and making available the archives. The bishop decree obligated the Archives to issue a statute and regulations, which were to define the rules of its operation and the use of archival materials.

Zielona Góra State Archives (Poland)

The State Archives in Zielona Góra were established relatively late, only in 1953. Until then, that is in the years 1945-1953, the areas of the Lubuskie Region were served by the Provincial State Archives in Poznań and Wrocław.

It is an archive of historical significance and its present collection is one of the largest and most valuable in Poland.

Central Archives of Historical Records (Warsaw) (Poland)

Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw is one of four Polish national archives. The archive was founded in 1808 and holds records ranging from 12th century until World War I. A large portion of the archive was destroyed during World War II in 1939 and in 1944.

State Archives in Szczecin (Archiwum Państwowe w Szczecinie) (Poland)

State Archive in Wrocław branch in Jelenia Góra (Archiwum Państwowe we Wrocławiu Oddział w Jeleniej Górze) (Poland)

The State Archive in Jelenia Góra was created 1927 as the Stadtarchive Hirschberg. It was located at the Aussere Burgstrasse. In 1932 it was reorganized and named the Stadt- und Kreisarchive Hirschberg. After the World War II (August 14, 1945) the Polish authorities reactivated the town archive in Jelenia Góra. It was the first Polish archive in former German territory. In 1951 this archive was reorganized again as the branch of the Voivodship State Archive in Wrocław. In 1976, according to the reform of state administration, the archive became the Jelenia Góra Voivodship State Archive. In 1991 it was reorganized again into the branch of Wrocław State Archive.

Wrocław State Archive in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki (Archiwum Państwowe we Wrocławiu - Oddział w Kamieńcu Ząbkowickim) (Poland)

The archive in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki came into existence in 1992 as a stock (Ekspozytura) of Wrocław State Archive. In 1995 it was renamed the branch of this Archive.
